An Analysis of the Form and Ideology of Hedgehog in the Fog The animation, ?Hedgehog in the Fog?, tells the story of an inquisitive hedgehog passing through a wood to visit his friend the bear cub to count the stars. It has won numerous awards for it?s style and originality after it?s release by Yuri Bonsovich Norstein (1941 - to date) and his small crew at the Soyuzmultfilm studios in Moscow in 1975. ?Hedgehog in the Fog? is the fifth of Norstein?s six completed works. All have a deceptive simplicity, a faux naivetà ®ehat begs a deeper understanding of their origins and implications. Norstein has a very original, particular style to his animations and the purpose of this essay is to critically analyse the form and ideology of one of his animations with the intention of discovering what it is that makes his artwork so unique and has led to him being regarded as one of the greatest animators in history?. The method by which this will be done will be to firstly report the elements and functions that went into forming Norstein?s animations and ?Hedgehog in the Fog? in particular, then to analyse how these elements .mix with his personal influences to imply further meaning within his work. The hedgehog?s journey begins as he enters the wood carrying a bag of sweets for the bear, and unknowingly stalked by an owl. He pauses for a moment to entertain himself by calling into a well and listening to his echo, the owl does the same. Continuing he sees a white horse standing in the fog and is concerThed~~s to whether it might suffocate should it lie down, and so enters the fo~ff~.i*eIf just to ?see what it was like?. Once within, the fog itself becomes a great part of the plot, revealing and hiding a number of characters that amaze, help or alarm him, or all three. All the while the bear cub is heard calling the hedgehog, with great concern, in the distance. At one point, becoming enthralled with a large tree, the hedgehog loses his sweets, only to have them returned to him by a dog. Finally after accidentally slipping into a stream and being saved from drowning by a fish the hedgehog finds his friend the bear who fusses over him incessantly having been worried as to his whe reabouts. The film ends with the hedgehog deep in thought about everything that had happened.

Chartists and Chartism   Chartism was the name of a variety of protest movements in England during the 1830s and 40s, which aimed to bring about change   in social and economic conditions through political reform. Its name comes from the People’s Charter, a six-point petition presented to the House of Commons with the hope of having it made law. The six point included annual parliaments, universal manhood suffrage, abolition of the property qualification for members of the House of Commons, the secret ballot, equal electoral districts, and salaries for members of Parliament.   This was the first independent working-class movement in the world, that is, not simply sporadic uprisings or agitation, and arose after the Reform Bill of 1832 had failed. Working men had agitated for this bill and its failure left them still without the sought-for right to manhood suffrage. The Factory Act of 1832 had reduced working hours for children, but not for adults. The New Poor Law of 1834 caused resentment among workers by building workers’ housing in factory districts, where living conditions were bad.   By 1837 50,000 were out of work in Manchester alone, owing to overproduction, loss of trade, and the shutting-down of many mills.   Throughout the country, from 1839-1851 widespread depression was due to a combination of jobs lost, bad harvests, and high food prices. There were organized groups in London and Birmingham, but a national organization was inspired by Feargus O’Connor, who edited a Chartist paper, The Northern Star, and was   a rabble-rousing speaker.   The Chartists’ method was to circulate their petition throughout the country and gather signatures which were to be presented to the House of Commons at a giant convention in... ...nating the worst working conditions were gradually enacted into law.   Victorian England was to struggle with labor-management problems throughout the century. Gradually the working class would come to recognize its need for centralized organization and would gain support from radical middle-class intellectuals and writers, notably Henry Mayhew, who during the years 1849-51 investigated living and working conditions in London and published a series of violently-debated letters in the Morning Chronicle. It would appear that the efforts of the Chartists, while not immediately successful, served as valuable experience for a future labor   movement, as well as awakening the consciences of individuals and groups outside the working class. Eight years ago, a child was born in Dallas/Fortworth metroplex with just only seven members under the leadership of Mr. Chinedum Eguzouwa our first executive president. Today, that child has grown to the strength of 60 members and has the potential to grow more as the years go by. That child is UMUNNA BU IKE SOCIAL CLUB OF NIGERIA DALLAS/FORTWORTH. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to this great occasion. I understand that there are many engagements in and around the city but you chose to be with us on this our 3rd induction party to witness why we are called UMUNNA BU IKE as young and dynamic club in Dallas. Tonight, we will induct ten families who were the lucky ones among many that applied. For those that were not admitted at the time of their interview, our reluctance in admitting you then did not mean that you were not qualified rather, it was based on the premises that our club does not engage on mass admission. Therefore, we encourage you to continue to reapply and on time so as to be among the very first ones to be interviewed. It is worth mentioning that to be considered for admission, you must be married and remain married because our club is built strongly on family values. To our new inductees, I welcome all of you to this great club. You will see for yourselves the difference between Umunna Bu Ike and any other club that may belong. You have made the best choice our your life in term of choosing a social club to belong. We will support and encourage you in our Umunna Bu Ike spirit. We have embarked on two Caribbean cruise, our last year picnic was second to none in comparison to any other club in Dallas, Our mother's event made history with our wives being picked up from their homes with limousine to the party site. This year, we are cruising to the eastern Caribbean to welcome our new inductees. Last year, under the chairmanship of Attorney Austin Uke, our youth wing is waxing so and strong some the highlights you will witness tonight. The club has also suffered some setbacks like many of the clubs in the city. Just three months ago, our club lost one of our pillars, a giant, man among men, a complete gentleman, a businessman, and a philanthropist in the person of late High Chief David Omenukor who slept with the lord on February 6, 2013. We ask that you continued to remember his family in your daily prayers and may I request your indulgence to ask for a moment of silence on his behalf. May we rise please. â€Å"May his soul rest in perfect peace†. Tonight, the chairman has assured me that all will be well and wants everyone to relax and watch the events as they unfold. Some of the reasons why male teachers performed better in schools than female teachers are male teachers are better discipliners, better leaders and better emotion controller than female teachers. Male teachers are better discipliners than female teachers. This is because females are recognised to have a softer side that can affect the discipline actions taken on naughty students. Besides that, rebellious students will take the motherly side of female teachers for granted and cause trouble. Therefore, male teachers are more suitable to discipline students as their strict personality can intimidate students. Another reason why male teachers perform better in school than female teachers are male teachers have better leadership than female teachers. This statement is supported by the fact that men usually play the dominant role in their family whereas women play the submissive role. Therefore, male teachers can lead a class better and be a role model to students especially to male students. Moreover, most of the well performed schools are lead by male principals. Male teachers can work more efficient than female teachers at all times. This is because men have better emotion control than most women and won’t get distracted by personal issues. They have better focus in their work than female teachers and have certain ego that makes them to do their best in their job.
